The Story
Loud, buttery, generous, a little bit chaotic, and always with room for one more chair.
Every November, Kat Sparks’ kitchen starts to smell like the Texas table she grew up at: onions and celery going soft in butter, and her mom Joyce crumbling cornbread into a bowl the size of a small bathtub.
This year that table returns to San Miguel. Chef Juan Carlos Hernandez is cooking the family recipes at Moxi at Matilda, straight from the handwritten cards. Not a version of them, and not an interpretation. The sage was even dried in advance, because it cannot be found here in November.
The turkey arrives plated. Everything else lands in the middle of the table, so you pass the potatoes to a stranger, and by dessert they are not a stranger anymore.
Far from home this year? Your first Thanksgiving as an expat? Come. A chair has been saved for you.
