Welcome to the most important page on this website. We are talking about Austen and Asher, two very good perros who are absolutely central to life at ExperienceSMA and who would like you to know they take their jobs very seriously. Well, one of them does. The other one is still working on it.
AUSTEN
The professional. The legend. The good girl.
Austen is a 12-year-old medical alert dog and she would like you to know that she has been doing this longer than most people have had their current jobs. Calm, wise, impeccably trained, and deeply devoted to Kat, Austen goes where Kat goes. Always.
As a certified medical alert dog, Austen is trained to detect and respond to specific health needs. She is not a pet at events. She is a working professional who happens to be incredibly beautiful. She is on duty and she takes that seriously, even if she does it while looking completely relaxed.
Austen has been with Kat through dinners, events, tours, and more tacos than either of them will admit. She is as much a part of this comunidad as the jardin itself.
Austen’s fun fact: Named after Jane Austen because she has excellent taste and judges people quietly.
ASHER
The intern. The chaos agent. The love of everyone’s life.
Asher is a puppy of spectacular genetic variety, part Poodle, part Xoloitzcuintli, part Golden Retriever, part Siberian Husky, and part Peruvian Inca Orchid, which means he arrived into this world as a complete surprise and has been surprising everyone ever since.
He currently knows come, sit, lay down, and stop, and is working very hard on halt. He is being trained by Mita, who deserves a medal. Asher brings enormous enthusiasm to everything he does, whether that is learning a new command, meeting a new person, or enthusiastically disagreeing with whatever Austen is doing.
Asher is not yet a working dog and is still very much in his learning era. He is a reminder that even the best professionals started somewhere, and that it is okay to be a work in progress as long as you show up with your whole heart. And Asher always does.
Asher’s fun fact: His DNA results came back as a genuine mystery and the whole community celebrated. He contains multitudes.

Austen and Asher represent something Kat believes deeply about ExperienceSMA and life in San Miguel de Allende. There is room for the seasoned and the brand new. For the ones who have been here forever and the ones just finding their footing. For quiet wisdom and joyful chaos. This comunidad welcomes all of it.
